ABOUT.
Iris Wulfe is a folk singer-songwriter and guitarist based in Nashville, TN.
From a young age, Iris was a ravenous bookworm. Drawn especially to books centered around greek mythology, she devoured stories as if it had been years since her last meal (yes, Percy Jackson was one of her favorite series growing up). The mythological stories of mortal and immortal beings captivated Iris, and is much of the reason her imagination continues to run wild with stories of love, loss, violence, and passion.
Alongside her exploration of religion and mythology, Iris developed a profound love of poetic lyricism and storytelling. She especially enjoyed using words to capture and liquify stories as a river does, as opposed to a mirror. Though she loved writing songs, Iris’ songwriting stayed in her bedroom for many years, primarily because she grew up training as a classical violinist for seventeen years.
After being forced to drop out of her violin performance degree two years in due to chronic tendinitis, Iris felt incredibly powerless – her primary way of creating music had been ripped out of her aching hands. However, as time passed, Iris discovered more ergonomically-friendly instruments like piano and guitar, which once again opened the floodgates for her creativity and self-expression.
Iris still struggles daily with chronic tendinitis, but has found ways to mitigate the symptoms to the point where she can play and write most days. And she now weaves her own musical tales infused with themes of nature, religion, mythology, and feminism.
Iris is currently working on her debut EP, Of Gods and Goddesses.
